if it pays well and you like everything about it then i say absolutely. australia is god's gift to man. what do you mean "random"? if it's actually BB, definitely take it seriously

I've heard a bit more relaxed but also pays less than US. This was about 3 years ago and was second hand information so take it with a big grain of salt. Though I do trust the source.

Random = unexpected. Made a random connection, opportunity has come out of it unsolicited...

Compensation will approximate the Street...

more concerned about working hours, culture:

  • will I actually get to enjoy the beautiful Land Down Under?

  • how will I be viewed/treated as an outsider?

  • promotion schedule?

  • exit opps?

I previously worked in S&T in Australia so I cant comment on the IBD hours, but banking in Australia generally provides a good work life balance. I can say that you will be treated no different being an outsider, and I never saw an opportunity not presented to me because I was an import.

I should also clarify when I said pay was a bit less, that's a bit misleading. At the BB I think my friend was pulling in the same base, all-in was slightly lower, like 70-80% of what it would be here.

Interesting... thanks for the comments

Currently in S&T in NYC... obviously that has great hours anywhere...

Just curious about IBD work-life in Sydney...
