Banks asking for facebook info from 1st year analysts

So I'm working for a BB in NY as an incoming 1st year analyst...just received a briefing email which ended by saying something along the lines of: "watch for future emails regarding online pre-assessment, FACEBOOK, etc..."

Could they be hinting at asking for a password?

Anyone else get similar emails?

*I've read the other post about firms asking for FB passwords during interviews. I'm curious if any other incoming analysts have received similar emails regarding FB or is it just firm-specific...?

I wonder if you said, 'I don't use facebook', if they would believe you? Assuming you have your settings set to private so they can't use global search to find you?

I don't think you have that setting on the new timeline. At least I can't find it

Calm down everybody.

Before 2003, "facebook" just meant a book of resumes with pictures attached, and most banks hand them out to their incoming analysts.

They handed ours out on our first day. It turned a friendly, chatty breakfast among college students in the executive dining room into the silence of a funeral as people realized that the lady sitting across from them started a 7-million-dollar hedge fund and the guy sitting to their right was a starter on Michigan's basketball team.

They are not asking for your facebook password. They are giving you everybody else's resumes and photos.

Thanks californiaanalyst for the link!

So you're saying it could just be "send us a bit of info about yourself so we can make a giant face_book of the new hires"? You'd think they would specify that or use a different term...

That's the term they've always used, and they're not going to change it just because it is confusing. Heck, they use the term MD when most of the rest of the world thinks that means a doctor, and bloomberg terminals still look like they were made in 1980.

They already have your resume; they are probably going to ask you for a photo at some point.

Where do you think Facebook got its name from?

MM IB -> Corporate Development -> Strategic Finance

As IP said, it is literally a book of faces. You submit a wallet-sized jpeg via email and they compile it all along with a master list of emails, schools, and names which you will receive at the beginning of the summer.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.
