BarCap Interview Tomorrow

Guys,

I will have a first round interview for IB Summer Analyst at BarCap tomorrow. Anyone who is familiar with the process please share your experience. I would really appreciate. Also, need help answering the question: What makes BarCap IBD different from other bank? Thank you guys so much!

Thanks

Best Response

I interviewed with BarCap a few months back for FT IBD. Can't imagine it'd be too different except maybe a little easier for an SA. I do remember it being one of the much more technical phone calls and superdays though, more out of the box type questions, so definitely be ready to talk about finance and not just spout answers from the M&I guide (basically how you should always be). But the rest really depends on what group you're interviewing with and the location and everything. That can really guide how you tailor some of your responses and the questions you might want to ask.

Some of the more obvious things about the culture you could touch on might include the 'No Jerk Policy'.

It's BS, but it shows you did a little homework, and you can spin it nicely with a little thought. Another thing to touch on would be the leaders and experience gained with all the Lehmanite dudes. This is probably location dependent as well. Talk about the strong balance sheet and their increasing position in IPO's (article's a little out of date...)

If you know what group, the size, the role of analysts there, etc, you can pretty much tailor it as necessary. Sorry if that;'s a little general, but hope it helps a little. Good luck.

I am not sure if this helps, but it is my understanding that the IBD guys sit with and work a lot more closely with the equity sales teams and the demarcation between different groups e.g. sales, trading, IBD etc. isn't as strong as at other banks.

I am not sure if this is correct, it is my recollection from an conversation a while ago, but if anyone could confirm it could be something to mention?

Also, probably more accurate as it is from their website...

What exactly makes our working culture stand out?

In a nutshell, it’s the way our working culture allows our people to stand out. An organisation as creative and diverse as ours is never short of opinions. And we’re quick to recognise initiative and innovation, wherever it comes from. More to the point, we give credit where it’s due. If you have an idea that drives the business forward, it’s great for all of us, but it’s still your idea. So you can expect all the recognition and reward such enterprise deserves. The result is a collective and dynamic pioneering spirit that relies on every individual’s contribution and where each employee is encouraged to play an intrinsic part in our success. Ours is a culture that values talent over tenure. Strength of thinking over length of service. Meritocracy over hierarchy.
