Barclays Hours/Lifestyle

Barclays is known to have good culture relative to other banks on the street. Anyone know what the hours are like (for SA and Analyst) in their coverage groups? Specifically interested in NYC office.

I can confirm Barclays NYC Tech grinds super hard (think 9am to 4-5am 7 days a week when it gets rough). Crazy dealflow per head and top notch junior camaraderie. It sounds cliche to say work hard play hard, but that's exactly what the NY tech group is. If you're coming in as an intern, I would give it a shot. For FT, I would stay away because you won't know what you're getting into.

Power and Sponsors are some good groups with lower hours.

Any idea of culture in healthcare and FIG? Know these groups get decent deal flow as well, especially healthcare. Do they work long long hrs like industrials and tech? By long hours I mean on average 85-95 hr weeks.

Obviously I know this is very dependent on a lot of factors (sub sector coverage, deal team, where you rank in your analyst class).

Knew a few people who went through there as MBA associates--overall sounds like a good place to be. Heard the juniors usually go out to drinks together on Fridays and teams/staffers are usually understanding if you have an important weekend commitment you want to make (weddings, family events, etc.). The first year sounds like a slower ramp than at some other places so it doesn't seem like you'd have too many 4-5 AM nights until well into your first year once you have things figured out, then they put you on a heavy amount of live stuff. Again, haven't been there personally so this is all anecdotal.

Industry Coverage teams are sweaty but not as much as any other BB. Geographical coverage much better, some parts of the UK team (CB) don't even work weekends and get off at 7 every day. Products it really depends on your team, I think the more continental Europeans the worse the hours but ymmv.
