Barclays IB Placement Advice

Hi all. Joining Barclays full time next year as a generalist. Imagine networking starts early next year. Really want to be in coverage but not sure what headcount looks like. I’m guessing top groups (sponsors, tech) will already have a full class, but I wanted to seek advice on groups or things to keep in mind when networking. Also curious as how you would play the networking (focus on more fit or technical/experience). Not really interested in ECM.

Anyone have insight or recommendations as to how I go about this process to end in coverage? It's been a dream for the past few years. Appreciate you all.

Any advice on groups to be looking for/some to generally avoid for culture? I would take anything in coverage but don't want to be pushed out either.

Currently work at Barclays. was in coverage last summer and switched to product because I wanted to be a career banker with WLB.

If you’re fine with the 80 hour weeks and want to go to buyside do coverage. Product is good if you want to stay long term; most product groups here only work 50-60 hrs per week on average. Base salary is exactly the same btw, bonus might be a bit lower but overall comp is similar

Thank you for input. Would you mind sharing perspective on different groups? I know sponsors/tech/power is full but not sure about others. Don't really care what group although preferably not FIG. How was your experience?

What's the rationale behind why product is better for career bankers? Is it because product bankers are less involved in sourcing deals?
