Ah, Barclays IBD, a topic that's been buzzing around the WSO threads quite a bit. Let's dive into it, shall we?

Career progression: From what I've seen, Barclays offers solid opportunities for career progression. It's a well-respected institution in the industry, and the experience you gain there can open many doors, whether you're looking to climb the ladder within the bank or explore opportunities elsewhere.

Team and Culture: The culture can vary from team to team, but overall, Barclays seems to foster a collaborative and supportive environment. There's a strong emphasis on teamwork and helping each other succeed.

Best Groups: This can be subjective and depends on what you're looking for in terms of deal flow, work-life balance, and exit opportunities. However, some groups that often get mentioned for their strong performance include M&A, Healthcare, and Technology.

Remember, these are just general observations based on the most helpful WSO content. The actual experience can vary greatly depending on many factors. It's always a good idea to network and speak with current employees to get a more accurate picture. Hope this helps!

There will be som GS/JPM people coming here to shit on another BB for sure. But my thoughts/experience:

Cons

- Currently the bank is going through a rough patch but it is not even close to what happened to DB or CS. Not looking great but still not as bad as some suggest on this forum, especially in Europe. In the US, it is a bit worse because of the exodus of Lehman people but time will tell how the US frechise will play out

- Bonus is generally below market even when times are good

Pros

- It is still a top tier BB bank if you look at IB in general - Far better experience and better name than most of the other names besides top tier BBs and some EBs. If you have an offer from those, sure take that but nobody can argue that Barclays is a far better name than 99% of the MM shops or below

- The European culture is great both people and working hours - there are some sweaty groups I guess but as an average it’s probably on the better side compared to other BBs

- There are still some great groups such as FIG, P&U, Tech (not that much anymore), and most other groups are ok as well

This is just a high level summary, hope this helps.
