Barclays NYC Top Coverage Groups (Updated 2022)
Wondering if anyone has updated information on the top groups at Barclays NYC right now -- in terms of exit opps, culture, etc. From the research I've done on this site, I see P&U, NatRes, and Financial Sponsors consistently being listed at the top, but it's a bit less clear how the other coverage groups stack up against these (CNR, FIG, Healthcare, CMG, Tech, Industrials, etc). It also seems as though these rankings have been subject to change recently, and the most updated information I can find is from 2019/2020. Any and all info is appreciated.
Sponsors > most coverage groups > FIG/CMG > RE
How is Fintech? Relevant?
one of the two stronger verticals in fig (insurance and fintech)
P&U, NatRes, and Sponsors are all good, but who the fuck want to work with energy companies andSponsors is a very small team.
Top coverage group (i.e. good deal flow/place well into UMM/MF PE) are industrials, tech, CRG, HC. Industrials and tech are sweatshops (up to you if it’s worth it for the better experience/pay but awful WLB).
FIG is okay but very niche and heard the culture has gotten worse. CMG is known as the lifestyle group but also heard the culture got worse during covid so shitty deal flow + shitty hours = bad. Don’t think RE is particularily strong.
Sounds like someone didn't get into P&U/Nat Res/Sponsors
Apparently tech group culture has changed dramatically? Is that really true?
There are a few seniors who are tough to work under. If you’re interested in tech I would try to switch to the SF office. Culture is much better and deal flow/exits are just as strong
Sponsors team is not small at barclays lol
4 NY analysts a year isn't small to you?
Yea bro neither is your dick!
sponsors lowkey sick
FIG group is HUGE, it's like 70+ people total or something so you could def get in if that's what you're asking. Barclays is wholistically a really balanced bank in that it doesn't really have any particular weak spots. P&U and NatRes sit at top in terms of dealflow and everything. Industrials and Tech are brutal but great experience. Healthcare is highly sought after (as with every bank). In general, Barclays has some of the best hours and cultures out of all the BBs, it's pretty well-rounded imo.
As an update on this (and given OCR MF/UMM took place in the past 24 hours) - friend is in HC, they absolutely crushed placements this year (heard their 2nd year class also has strong placements).
Definitely a place to be if you want good exit opps.
got any examples?
Industrials / TMT are very good
Bump... going through placement right now and would like opinion on exits of HC/Tech/Industrials, and how it stacks up to P&U or NatRes.
Will get good looks at all. Although NatRes / P&U might pigeonhole you a bit. Have heard less than great things about P&U lately.
Culture in HC and natres are top-notch.
