barclays vs. greenhill RX for private equity

title says it all. got offers from both (barclays through diversity but greenhill through normal). these are also both in NYC. my plan is to do 2 years IB and then go to pe. comp, culture, etc. are all fairly similar, so pe exits is the main deciding factor. would appreciate any insight.

I’d go with Greenhill RX. Personally I like the boutique platform more and they are a great group. I recruited there and really liked the people. They’ve also been winning bigger mandates under Augustine and RX is a good space to be in right now. You’d get worked hard but they are supportive of the first years who recruit for PE and have had some solid exits recently

I think that this is a tough decision but I'd lean marginally towards Greenhill. IMO consensus is that GS/MS/JPM and then the top 6 boutiques (EVR,PWP,PJT,MOE,LAZ,CVP) are preferable to rest, but then when deciding between mid BBs (BAML/CS/Barclays/Citi) and borderline EBs like Guggenheim/Greenhill it should be a personal choice and group dependent. Would lean Greenhill because Barclays only has 1/2 good groups for PE exit opps.

Power is their main one. BBs have 100s of analysts every year and not all of them get to do modeling work anyways - contrast to top EBs where pretty much every kid is on M&A/RX work and limits their classes to 30-40 kids max. much more time efficient for headhunters to focus on top EBs although you can still break in from the non-top BBs

Barclays is probably the best BB for culture. Greenhill is also in the top tier of culture for EB. Barclays PE recruiting is going to beat out GHL in a few groups, but there is a risk of placing into a weaker team. I would personally sign GHL RX here, leaves more doors open if distressed investing is of interest. Can't go wrong either way - it's close enough that a better cultural fit should be the deciding factor IMO.

Sponsors, Power, Natres, Consumer, Industrials, etc are known to be good. Again, would say go with culture - did you vibe more with people at one bank or another?
