Why do you want to do finance? Why not stick with law?
Networking will be essential for you (as for everybody else really). If possible, yes, of course, get something in the fall. Really anything will do. Even PWM.
It is more typical/easier to go IB->PE->MBA->PE/corp fin/get the hell out of the industry

So the reason why you are going into finance is money and exit opps (and maybe interest, but I think that corresponds with money for you). Well, let me tell you one thing, why do finance if you want to exit along the line and not just start in whatever field you want to end up in? Why do it for the money? You'll never be happy working those 100-120 hours/week. Just some questions to think about.
I am not sure about the US, but I know that they offer fall internship at least in Europe. Your best bet will be contacting boutiques because you are just too late for fall internships at BBs.
