BB IB vs. boutique asset manager
Given the option between IB at a decent coverage group at a mid BB and buyside equity research at a $1b-$10b AUM long-only asset manager (mutual fund structure), which would you pick as your first job out of undergrad? Similar comp at both, like people at both, find the ER work more interesting, ER WLB is FAR superior, IB preserves more optionality.
Simple decision, do you like asset management? If you do take it and run. Is it an interesting strategy e.g. sector focused, concentrated portfolio or is it just a closet indexer?
