If it was a sophomore I would say otherwise but this is obviously connects. An actual freshman wouldn't even pass through a HR or online application screen because of just their grad date...

MS has a designated freshman program with a formal recruiting process; JPM used to have one (but discontinued it) yet somehow every now and then there's a kid that sneaks in as a freshman (read: connection) and I've never seen or heard of it at GS but definitely a connection if it happened there.

Sounds like either said person or you, or both, have a belief that diversity and merit are mutually exclusive which isn't the case but that's neither here nor there.

What does it matter? Focus on yourself and trying to better your own situation instead of complaining about the opportunities others got on the internet.

Funniest

If it's the person I'm thinking of, he's just THAT good. Picture doing a full DCF in 30 minutes, blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back. Memorizing the color scheme for each bank's presentation templates down to the exact number in powerpoint. Capturing multiple bees in his hands at the same time WITHOUT getting STUNG.

He's so good at negotiations that he was able to get out of his Equinox membership 1 MONTH EARLY!!

Kid's going to be a Back Office Legend some day
