"BB is better than EB for moving out of high finance" misconceptions?

people say this a lot but honestly does a bank like BOFA or Citi have any more cache/brand/prestige than a bank like Wells Fargo outside of finance? I doubt people in other industries/regular people will know the prestige differences of working in IB at these large banks... I feel like only GS/MS/JP have any real cache outside of finance. What do you guys think? Would this be a valid reason to choose Barclays/CS over BOFA/Citi if stuck between 2?

Barclays/CS/BofA/Citi are all BB. And Wells does mainly MM deals.

Nowhere in your post do you mention a single boutique bank...

Who cares what the person bagging your groceries thinks (and they very well could think that BofA and WF are the same)....

Anyone who will ever be evaluating you (whether a headhunter, hiring manager, future boss, business school, etc) will know the difference between BofA and WF. Choosing a bank that non-finance people think is prestigious might be the dumbest idea I've ever heard
