BB/EB/B/MM - Which to chose, which is better - Where to draw the line?!

So I'm sure a lot of recruits (myself included) would like to know how to really draw the lines between EB (Elite Boutique) /B (Boutique) /MM (Middle Market) banks.

From those of you who have **Bulge Bracket Experience **- please comment on your day to day (preferably as an Analyst)

The way I see it the prestige hierarchy is BB > EB > B > MM

Is this driven by the type of deals done? Quantity? Quality? What if one group does $10bn in transaction value with only 3 deals in one year, and another group does $10bn with 12 deals done in one year - both are doing $10bn. Get what I'm saying?

My experience at an MM TMT bank last Summer (Summer Analyst) was that of a lot more Biz Dev / Phone Call oriented. I took the lead on a few vital projects like multiple deal trackers (2), management preso / pitch slides, edited a hair of the financial model, l as well as setting up a data room to name a few... I also chatted with the CEO of the company we were transacting (as him and I were the first to join the call) with for about 12 seconds about the weather in my city before my MD joined the call and that abruptly stopped.

On the other hand, I had a friend who was working at Wells Fargo in NYC who I texted and asked if he worked on a data room - to that he responded with "what's a data room?" - Clearly, there is a difference in terms of what banks expose their juniors to, I'd like to hear what others have to say on this topic.
