BDA Partners standing in the industry
Does anyone have any information on BDA Partners and its reputation in London IBD circles? I am aware that it is not a huge brand but was wondering if anyone can offer information on how it is regarded by other bankers and how this may impact future 'horizontal transitions' and so on.
Thanks
It’s a no-name M&A boutique that does a lot of cross-border deals involving Asia.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Ah, so I can assume that there is not much chance of leveraging any experience at BDA to get into, say, UBS or credit suisse?
Brief context: I am a final year Imperial College student with a chinese background looking to get into IBD
Very possible if you recruited for their Asian offices. Not so much if you recruited for the London office, where you'll mostly be doing coverage work.
My group has worked on a couple of cross-border deals with them as counterparts and I've got to know a few of their analysts/associates over the years so here's my $0.02. They originally started out as a NYC shop, but now have completely transformed into an Asia-focused MM shop after a series of strong hires they've made in Asia over the years. Their China/Japan/Korea offices seem to be pretty strong in deal flow. From what I saw and heard the culture is extremely sweaty and I've seen a number of their analysts leaving to BBs seeking better WLB believe it or not. Though not 100% relevant to the topic, I heard that their Asian partners now have more equity in the firm than the founder group. The guys at US/UK offices told me that they now mostly do coverage/support work for their Asian offices. If your applying to their office outside of Asia, I would not expect to get much technical/deal experience.
Who?
Worked there. Good culture, bad deal flow. Possible to be be a stepping stone if you want to do BB
can update this because i was looking into internships there, seems to be doing super super well in 2022 and had a great 2021. on the smaller end of boutiques, but at least from the website deal flow has been pretty great this year w/ some blue chip clients
examples being Toshiba LG EQT and Navis
One of my friends jumped to CS after spending 1 year in BDA. Good deal flow, good brand in HK and Asia. But seems also sweaty thus hight turnover.
Hi, how would you rate the london office? I was curious if one can jump into elite boutiques or big banks after that?
