Be Proud After Your First Week

Many believe that IB (Finance/Consulting/Accounting/Difficult Job) is pointless, tedious, tiresome, unexciting, hell- who’s to say they are wrong? You align logos, adjust footnotes, fix fonts, turn comments, what are you even learning and what is the point?

Unlike going to the gym and witnessing your muscles grow, It is difficult to see your mind develop. But, I PROMISE that you are getting stronger. You are learning how to work hard and are bestowed a perspective that will help carry you for the rest of your life. You don’t owe someone, you owe it to yourself to push past your limit far beyond what you dreamed was possible, even if its just one more day. Life will get better and if you made it through the first week of your job, you should be PROUD OF YOURSELF. After a month, a year, or even a decade, you have earned a commemoration suitable for a deity.

You experienced hell first-hand and can now stare down chaos/information in the face and turn it into a valuable output. More importantly, your newly found hard work ethic, determination and discipline can be applied to ALL other aspects of your life. However you MUST consciously do it every single damn day. If we are spending 40 – 100+ hours a week at work… why don’t we spend the SAME amount of time deeply thinking about how to improve the lives of our friends, loved ones and ourselves.

Pursuing our passions, picking up an exciting new hobby, deeply thinking about a gift for our loved ones, choosing a movie you want to watch instead of just trying to kill time, planning an unforgettable weekend trip with a friend, an exercise routine and balance meals to live longer, etc. Although work pilfers our precious time away from us, we must be RELENTLESS and steal it back by working even harder on other aspects of our lives.
