Best Consumer Groups on The Street?
Interested in lateraling to a consumer group. I think that this is genuinely interesting, and if I am going to slave hours, I would want to do it at something I am moderately passionate about. Currently in a generalist program.
What are the best consumer groups on the street?
GS I think
GS, JPM, Barclays, and BAML for the BBs. Centerview and PJ Solomon for the boutiques. I know I'm missing a few.
Worth noting GS Consumer also probably has the best lifestyle of any of the Classic groups (source: networked with the firm)
Barclays was #1 bank for Consumer Retail in Q1 2021 (across all products, not just M&A) and is also a lifestyle group
Know a guy who went to BofA C&R, said they're strong as well.
IMO PJ Solomon a tier or 2 below the others listed here.
Edit: Mispoke, Barc C&R is not a "lifestyle" group but seems to have one of the best cultures of any group at the firm--was told specific actions taken by leadership to make analyst experience better.
Barclays consumer retail is NOT a lifestyle group, you have no fucking clue what you're talking about
I wouldn't call it lifestyle...more like good culture folks that still work hard. Curious to hear if you had any direct experience?

Are you at an EB, BB, MM?
Pretty sure Citi CnR has been rapidly climbing the league tables the past couple ofyears
For MM, HL dominates the Consumer Food & Bev space with a very strong team out of Chicago
Blair and PJS have also been performing well in the space as of late. IIRC Baird's Consumer team is on the smaller end but growing pretty quickly
I believe HL also has a team that runs CFB in Dallas.
PJ Solomon has a legacy consumer team, it's what they're known for. You can't compare them to MM banks because they're a boutique. Also, Blair doesn't do much in C&R other than capital markets (IPOs, Follow Ons, etc.). They did recently advise Holley though, so there may be more to come.
MS, GS both have top consumer groups
GS/JPM/BAML from BBs and Centerview for EBs are the strongest imo.
DB has a solid Consumer group
I'm not sure about the bulges, but HL (Chicago office) and Piper (SF office) dominate the MM consumer space. Baird's decent too but they do smaller C&R deals.
Also wanted to add that Harris Williams is probably the best MM in the fitness space.

No. They are an average/slightly above average group at JEF.

If you get league table data across products, many of these banks are not even top 30
