Best Groups at Goldman Sachs IBD

Currently going through the recruiting process and was wondering how people rank the groups within GS Classic IBD. Apparently, HR asks you if you have preferences for who you would interview view so I thought I would ask.

Based on past threads I have concluded the following:

Level 1:

  • TMT: Insane exits all around

  • FIG: Comparable to TMT but a bit worse

Level 2:

  • Industrials: Fantastic exits into firms like Apollo every year, but tough culture/hours

  • Healthcare: Good exits

Level 3:

  • CRG: Good exits and interesting deals. Not really sure where people go

Level 4:

  • NR: Decent exits

  • RE: Decent exits

I work for Goldman, anywhere in the firm is beneficial and worth the challenge. You’ll absolutely get as much out of your position, if not more as long as you put in the effort and put yourself on the line to learn as much as possible. I will say, Global Markets division is an absolute hidden gem. Worth checking out absolutely, but besides GM in my mind IBD and PWM are great divisions of the firm. Feel free to shoot me a DM with any questions.

If you’re recruiting for aso then look elsewhere... why work more and get treated like shit just to get paid peanuts relative to your peers. Not worth it just to say you’re at gs. Would focus on those discussions and hopefully you can figure out what the prestige trap is before consolidating anymore “top group” info from scrounging the depths of wso
