Just to add here for the U21 crowd. You will not get into Turtle Bay with a fake
Can confirm for Turtle Bay. Happened to a couple of girls in a group. Newyorkermonkey's list is solid. The biergarten/standard is my favorite. Le poisson rouge (night club) and Hair of the dog in/near SoHo are pretty good too. I would say that it's perfectly okay to find other places.
