Best way to lateral from S&T to IBD - First Year Analyst

Hi all,

I recently completed my first year at a BB S&T program (think MS, JPM, GS) - although I enjoy my job I am not getting the fundamental modeling experience I was hoping for. I have always been interested in Markets and came out of a non-target school with the offer my Junior year.

I want to go into a more active investing role whether it be at a HF or large AM, but am afraid if I stay in sales too long I might be pigeonholed. I wanted to ask if people have made the switch after their first year in an S&T role to an IBD one and what would be the best route to do so? Any experience/advice would be helpful. Thanks!
