Beware Banking can SUCK.

I've heard so much about the fact that being an analyst, or even associate for that matter leaves you with no life outside of work.

Is it true that you eat, sleep and breathe work to the point that you don't socialize much with friends, work on holidays when the rest of the world has off, deal with shit from your superiors and feel like this job sucks?

It seems the analysts here only think about work and money, probably have little time for working out, meeting friends, going out or even seeing something other than their damn desk and computer screen.

You might get that $150-175K salary maybe even as high as $350K per year, but you waste most of it on rent and living costs of New York City.

I know of a guy who was a star in banking. He was a family friend and had a great wife and family. Due to his crazy work schedule his wife divorced him, took half is money and as a result of working so much, he had no social life or friends.

He moved down south with his pet and retired early but still had to work because his wife took half his money.

He was a partner at Goldman Sachs.

If you don't mind the HUGE sacrifice for a glamorous lifestyle, go into the industry by all means.

Just understand tha you can reach the pinnacle of the damn industry, and still HATE your life.

Just some food for thought.

i think most people that want to go into ibanking know the sacrafices, if theyve been lurking here anyway. but i can think of so many jobs where you sacrafice a social life, and many other instances when someones wife took half their money. and if i ever make partner a goldman.... well half for this year was still 3.5 mil.

His wife was spending all of the money he was making while he was married, taking half should still be enough for him to be comfortably drawing interest for the rest of his life.

Relationship problems are not the fault of the lifestyle, but rather the fault of miscommunication before marriage. If your wife wants you to take the kids to soccer practice and thinks this will start happening once you make Partner, you're screwed.
