Blackstone vs Lazard (London)
Hi guys,
Thanks to a bit of good luck, I've got SA offers for Blackstone in Advisory and for Lazard - both are in London, and the people at both seemed pretty cool. Any advice or thoughts about which I should take would be really helpful!
Thanks monkeys
Probably Blackstone. While I actually think Rothschild does better advisory work in London, the Blackstone name is boss. I think it's really just that simple.
I know people on this board love blackstone and all, but Rothschild in London is top notch. I do not work there, but have heard nothing but good things. I don't think you can go wrong with either place to be honest.
Working hours at Rothschild seem pretty laid back from what I heard from friends who worked there. Blackstone is Blackstone, baller place though dont know much about their recent deals. Dealwise I think rothschild is better, has a bigger analyst class and is one of the largest m&a offices in London.
For Corp Fin Advisory definitely go for Rothschild simply because they are one of the league table leaders in UK and EU and you might just be lucky enough to be staffed on a deal rather than making pitchbooks all summer. BX advisory is still new and finding its feet in the UK, Rothschild has had an established practice in the UK since the time of Queen Victoria and Benjamin Disraeli.
By league tables, Rothschild would probably be ahead of BX in London. But I think as far as a prestigious global brand name in the finance industry...Blackstone wins hands down.
I have a couple of friends at Rothschild, including one who just got hired as a grad after an off-cycle internship:
1) Rothschild is indeed very prestigious in London. Old and powerful brand, excellent deal flow and real expertise in advisory. 2) Be ready to work hard buddy. Working hours are absolutely not laid back. You'll be worked to the bone (depends on the group of course...). But if you want to work in M&A, it is worth every second. 3) Don't know about BX's London office. In terms of pure M&A/Restructuring advisory, Rothschild is waaay more powerful...in London.
Conclusion: if you want M&A in London, take Rothschild. If you're considering working/MBA in the US, you should go for BX. It doesn't mean that Roth will hurt your chances! At that stage, it will depend on your performance.
You can't go wrong with these firms. Congrats for the offers!
Rothschild is extremely strong in London. I personally know several people who have rejected Goldman to go to Rothschild.
Anyone have info on Rotshchild NY
Rothschild NY is not as great as Rothschild London. Though on the RX side, Rothschild is a strong practice in UK and US.
Rothschild London is excellent and places well.
Congrats on the great offers man.
Overall international brand: Blackstone.
Depends on your goal then. What are you planning to do later in life?
I'd like to go to a top business school, and maybe move post-MBA to consulting - but I'd still want to work in London. Thanks for all the input guys! Very much appreciated
now it changed from rothschild to lazard or did you decide to drop rothschild and are now deciding between BX and LAZ?
Lol, you should have created another thread instead of just editing the original post.
