Blackstone vs Lazard (London)

Hi guys,

Thanks to a bit of good luck, I've got SA offers for Blackstone in Advisory and for Lazard - both are in London, and the people at both seemed pretty cool. Any advice or thoughts about which I should take would be really helpful!

Thanks monkeys

For Corp Fin Advisory definitely go for Rothschild simply because they are one of the league table leaders in UK and EU and you might just be lucky enough to be staffed on a deal rather than making pitchbooks all summer. BX advisory is still new and finding its feet in the UK, Rothschild has had an established practice in the UK since the time of Queen Victoria and Benjamin Disraeli.

I have a couple of friends at Rothschild, including one who just got hired as a grad after an off-cycle internship:

1) Rothschild is indeed very prestigious in London. Old and powerful brand, excellent deal flow and real expertise in advisory. 2) Be ready to work hard buddy. Working hours are absolutely not laid back. You'll be worked to the bone (depends on the group of course...). But if you want to work in M&A, it is worth every second. 3) Don't know about BX's London office. In terms of pure M&A/Restructuring advisory, Rothschild is waaay more powerful...in London.

Conclusion: if you want M&A in London, take Rothschild. If you're considering working/MBA in the US, you should go for BX. It doesn't mean that Roth will hurt your chances! At that stage, it will depend on your performance.

You can't go wrong with these firms. Congrats for the offers!
