Bonus Timing?
I realize this is an insanely elementary question, but when are investment banking bonuses typically paid out? The summer? Christmas? Does it vary from bank to bank? Is it different from IB to PE to HF's to VC to PWM, or is the entire finance industry getting its bonuses at roughly the same time of year?
I'm currently cowering due to the shame I feel from not already knowing this.
Banks pay analysts a bonus on every work anniversary. So, if the analyst starts in the summer, he/she will receive his/her bonus the next summer.
Early in the year is usual bonus time, Jan/Feb for non analyst
Ours get paid out in April.
As of a few years ago at least most banks paid analysts in July / August (every anniversary of their start date) while associates on up were paid in January (with a fixed stub for their first six months). I believe GS/MS also paid their analysts on the January cycle w/ stubs.
I've heard that more banks are moving to the January cycle for analysts but haven't heard anything confirmed yet.
How does moving to a January cycle for analyst work if, after two years, the analysts move to another job in the summer like is basically expected of the majority?
