Boutique IB vs Micro HF (100MM - 200 MM)
I'm a Sophomore with an offer from a boutique IB firm to intern this Spring and Summer. From the interview, its deal-flow sounds pretty good but it specializes in $50 - $100 MM deals. It is a pretty reputable firm that has been around for 15+ years.
I also have an offer from an HF that specializes in the TMT sector but it only manages around $100 - $200MM. It is a newer firm, around 1-year-old and was founded by a former PM at a top 10 HF.
Currently debating which offer to take, and I need to let them know by the end of December. I want to do Investment Banking for around 2 - 3 years and then Hedge Fund / Fund Management. Which offer do you think I should take?
It depends on what you wanna do. If you wanna do IB, take the boutique internship. If you wanna do Asset Management of S&T, take the other.
Well, that's the thing, I want to do a BB IB first then move on to asset management. I feel like IB will give me more options and flexibility.
Took an internship at a small hedge fund for my sophomore summer. Had lots of modeling experience and the guys who ran it were extremely smart. Would definitely recommend
