Breaking it down
Looking at Analyst jobs at JP Morgan Chase and had a few questions I was hoping you guys could answer. I know investment bankers make a lot and was wondering if an analyst in the Asset Management division would make anything comparable to that. I also am looking at jobs for analyst (i.e. business analyst) in the Operations department. Some of the titles are: Confirmations Analyst, Fund Reporting Analyst, and IB Tech risk business analyst.
I'm sure signing bonuses might be similar to get people up there and the base salary might be different by maybe 5k. But end of year bonuses are where IBD cleans up. I was wondering what total compensation is like for those positions.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Is this a joke?
IBD > AM > Ops
Get the job first, then worry about compensation.
I'd like to know what compensation is like for each job so I know which job to pursue.
it looks like you've got a lot of research to do, but to start you off: almost any entry level professional in the finance industry will be called an 'analyst' - whether that's an investment banking analyst making $150k or a technology analyst making $65k
There are some things that say IB-Ops.
Exactly what it sounds like operations for the investment banking division.
This is wrong on many levels.
1) Who "wants" to work in Ops?
2) Comp should be an issue, obviously, but you should do what you like best/think you'd be good at: IB and AM, while both requiring certain levels of analytical and communication skills, are very different fields.
I really want to do IB but if I'm not able to get into that, I was told by someone at JPM to drop into Op or AM and try to make the transition after a year or so. I don't want to move to Manhattan for 60k/year salary. That's like poverty there.
