We often hear about the sell-side transactions of I-Banks, but what about the buy-side?
Is the sell-side more prevalent than the buy-side?
That seems odd because for every sell-side transaction (sale to strategic buyer) there is a buy-side transaction on the other end. Therefore, it would seem that there should be an equal amount of sell-side transactions as buy-side transactions.
Is this true?

yes, true. you are just confused by the terminology "buy-side" and "sell-side" because sometimes investment banking as a whole is referred to as "sell-side" (since you are still hired as an adviser and need to sell your services) while "buy-side" is often used to refer to private equity, hedge funds or any other industry where you are the principal investor.

Why don't people try to get into the private equity groups at BB's? Do they not want to or are they just that hard to get into? It seems like if you're already established at a firm, have solid contacts with senior people, it would be easier to get into a BB's PE group...
