Buy-Side Exit Ops in the US from Tokyo

I will be starting my Investment Banking Analyst Program at a BB (think of Citi, BAML, CS) in Tokyo after graduation. Group assignment has not come out yet.

In the long term, I don't really know what I want to do (I would like to work shorter hours so probably don't want to stick to banking for more than needed) but I am definitely hoping to come back to the states--strongly prefer San Francisco or LA).

As of now, I know the possible career paths are i) 2 years banking -> buy-side in Japan -> B-school -> US ii) 3-4 years banking -> internal transfer to US Office -> buy-side or corp dev iii) 3-4 years banking -> B-school -> US

But I was wondering if it would be at all possible for me to do: iv) 2 years banking -> buy-side or corp dev in US? If so, what would be the best approach for me to do this?

I appreciate your help!
