Buy-Side Question

Background: I work in Corp Fin, doing 90% of my work as sell side with the occassional buy-side consulting. I have not (until now) searched for acquisition targets.

We have a client who was looking for advice in a transaction and it basically fell through. Now, she is looking to make an acquisition, but wants our assistance. She is specific as to the geographic location, but not as specific as to the business she acquires (within her buying capabilities). How would you guys search for potential targets?

I know this is sort of like asking people to do my work, but I really don't intend it to be. Obviously, I will have a lot of analysis and legwork to do, I just don't know the best way to jump into it. Any advice would be appreciated.
