Buy side vs Sell side ... what's the difference?
Can someone explain what these terms mean please. I've got a grad job at a big investment bank and figured this is something I should understand before I start.
Maybe you'll be shocked I landed the job w/o understanding what these terms mean! Don't be afraid to say if you're amazed I don't already know haha
Come on man... my MBA associates are pretty useless but they at least know how to use Google.
"Big Bank" this guy most definitely did not get a job.
If he did, it confirms my suspicions of the standards used for MBA candidates...
I haven't done an MBA ... just an undergrad. Perhaps a US vs UK misunderstanding?
I suppose bulge bracket is the correct term ... it's pretty big regardless. You could say I'm undeserving based on the fact that I don't care for or get excited by the terminology, but given that I haven't started ... there's more interesting things for me to concern myself with.
The sell side.... wait for it...... sells stuff (M&A advisory, research, trading execution, bespoke financial products, etc.) and the buy side buys stuff ( entire businesses, equity, debt, etc.)....
