Can anyone describe the VP IB role in detail?

There's so much insight in this forum for Analysts and Associates, but pretty limited in terms of the VP level.

I'm about to be a VP and I would really like to understand the role/responsibilities for both the capital markets side and M&A. I'm mostly concerned with product over coverage as that's where I work.

Basically, it seems like the role leads execution and manages the process. There may be some solo origination, but largely any origination is supporting SVPs/Directors and/or MDs on BD.

This is a bit open-ended, but can anyone that's a seasoned VP--or is now at the next level--layout the day-to-day and what qualities make up a 'good' VP?

Sorry. Didn't realize this would upset you.

I have worked with VPs and--in some cases--performed VP level tasks. Where I have gaps are around the aspects of the role that I'm not privy to at my current level (e.g., client relationship management, correctly interrupting 1-on-1s with SVPs/Directors or MDs in order to distill a work plan to Analysts/Associates, mentoring Associates, working to originate my own book).
