Can you pigeon hole yourself in a certain niche?

Hypothetically, if I took a junior role in healthcare and wanted to lateral out a few years later in O&G, would that be possible? Or would I be stuck in respective niche?

You're not closing many doors at analyst but your moves do need to make sense... HC to retail is fine for example, but HC to O&G would really not make sense.

Sticking with that coverage, if you do HC IB and decide you hate it, you can recruit for generalist exits or exits in another industry that you've studied and can talk about intelligently / where the modeling is similar. But someone covering biotech is going to have a hard time learning an upstream NAV model in O&G, and same for the reverse. Same for banks coverage... you can certainly do PE recruiting and be fine, but your opportunities and skillset will usually be best used in your coverage area.
