H1B and CPT/OPT are non-immigrant visas, so they will not be affected. The people who have to worry are those looking to acquire a green card. The only problem I could see happening is firms getting worried (like 2 years ago) that Trump's immigration laws will impact H1B in the future.

I think this is just the recent immigrant visa announcement. I though tthere was an existing suspension on all visa services including non-immigrant ones.

There is, but afaik that was only for services abroad. If you are already IN the country you should be alright, unless the specific visa requires you to be outside of the country, your grace period ended, you are out of status or something like that. H1b can be filed within the country.

also, these consular services will open again in the future.

I think it's too early to say that H1B won't be affected. When Trump is tweeting wholesale immigration policy ad hoc do you think he's really distinguishing between immigration intent visas? Who knows where things will shake out down the road, but I'm assuming there will be a lot of confusion in the short term.

TN not affected for FT recruit but this will definitely affect Canadian SA. Canadians usually use J1 to take the summer, which is included here. I've already heard of some disruption with 2020 summer of internships getting cancelled because visa's had been getting delayed, COVID had pushed start dates out, etc.

My expectation is that 2021 SA recruit for the US will be very non-Canadian friendly. Thing similar thing is going to happen like 2 years ago where TN was under more scrutiny, and there were a few horror cases in 2018 so all the banks got scared of recruiting Canadians (and some processes shutting down completely like JPM toward Canadians)

So yeah, Canadians recruiting FT into the US wont be affected but 1) as we know SA recruits 90% into FT classes and 2) convicing HR departments that you're worth taking a flier risk on. Just unliukely
