Currently at a BB (JP / MS / GS) thinking about lateraling to an EB, in large part because of pay. Cant justify all this work for pennies on the dollar compared to some EBs. Anyone have thoughts on M&A structuring with Centerview and/or their Real Estate team?
Whats Centerview NYC like in general? Hours per week?

One of my best friends lateraled last year. Seems like he’s living his best life. Sounds like culture is pretty great, benefits second to none and pay unreal.
You’ll work hard but hours are naturally variable and they’re pretty anti-unnecessary work. Most weekends are free unless absolutely urgent.
That’s what I’ve heard, too. That point on weekends could be biggest benefit...
Only drawback in my mind (and just me) is potential drop in brand value. Although I guess that only matters if you’d like to get out of finance like Corp Dev, as they place well in PE. Thoughts?
I don’t think there’s a material drop in brand value even for corp dev. Could argue that their strategic advisory coverage puts them top of mind for corp dev positions for their Fortune 50 clients. And any sponsor backed portco will know the name.
I think the only place where that really applies if you went to something really different like tech sales or maybe an early stage start up, but then your deal experience should speak for itself.
If all else fails, you still have the BB name on your resume.

If you're willing to do 4 years of analyst (you'll take 1 year back when lateraling and CVP has a pretty strict 3 year system) then go ahead and lateral. But if you're thinking PE might as well stick to where you are and then exit out.
My friend was given full credit for his prior experience and didn’t reset. Not sure if that’s standard or one-off, but definitely not a hard and fast rule.
This isn't always the case - I know someone who lateraled to CVP after a year and still got A2A in 2 years.
