Chances of getting a summer internship in the US as a French student?

Hi Monkeys,

I'm a French student currently studying in target (#2 in France) and I'm very interested in pursuing a summer internship in the US. However, since I don't have any contacts or networking opportunities in the US, I'm a bit concerned about my chances of getting a summer.

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience or advice on this matter? Are there any French students who have successfully obtained a summer internship without networking beforehand? And what can I do to increase my chances of getting an internship?

Already have an internship in EB M&A in Paris.

Thanks guys

You should qualify for the J visa in the US. These are normally run through "agencies" in between you and the organizer, although the company itself could do it also.
1) Google the typical J agencies out there and ask whether they work with any financial institutions.
2) Contact HR teams/companies directly and ask whether they participate in the J visa program.
3) Ask companies in your own country and inquire whether they offer international internships that may place in the US.
4) Chamber of commerce (of your own country) is another contact where these questions are explained. Find out how financial institutions in your own country work within the United States. These contacts within the CoC are often good people to know, they can link you up with domestic business leaders and also the ones abroad.
5) The EU offers internship abroad as well, not all roles are in Brussels. And they also have internships with a focus on economics and foreign policy.
