changing date of return flight for superday

I told HR I wanted to leave a day later than the date she proposed which was the day of the interview and I asked to fly back the day after because I want to see some family. Will this look badly on my part to the firm? This is a boutique.

Probably not. It might even save them some money for a Saturday stay.

I think getting there the night before and getting a good night's sleep (rather than getting up at 5AM for the airport) may actually help.

If you're worried about it, check the prices on Travelocity to get a bit of an indication, and ask to change only if it would cost less. But try to do it before they book the tickets.

Back in the good old days, Lehman, GS, and a number of the banks outsourced everything to American Express Travel Services. Ridiculous fares for last-minute flights would often get paid, and college students dressed in business attire would get weird looks from check-in staff when they turned down a $50 first class upgrade on a $900 ticket. (Back in 2006, standalone check-in kiosks were still a little nascent. You also got to check two bags free.)

Some companies still use them! I know one of the Big 4 does at least. No idea about banks though.
