Citi IBD Groups (London)

Does anyone happen to know which groups within Citi IBD (in London) are particularly strong in terms of deal flow and exit opportunities? I've had a search through the forums and this is the general list I've seen but a lot of the sources are a few years old so I was wondering if anyone could provide a more up-to-date idea.

- Industrials
- Energy
- Communications
- Consumer
- M&A (I was told during the interviews that there is no real dedicated M&A group in London - or at least it doesn't accept interns)

Also, does anyone know how group allocation works for the summer internship at Citi in London?

I wouldn't listen to a word animalz says..

In terms of work allocations - you will, just prior to training, attend a milk round of sorts, where essentially you get to meet every team in IBD in london. Take that opportunity to speak to all the teams that interest you, make it clear they do, and get contact details so you can try and follow up and have coffee's etc with people to get a real feel for the team.

We will have already seen your CV's and have a fair idea of who we want to target..

Then, during training we put in our requests, and you join the team you're picked for at the end of your first week. You spend the remaining 9 weeks in that team working with them.

The only extent you are 'pooled' is if you are in GIG, or FIG or TMT - so you will, for example, work across TMT rather than just focussing on Tech.

As for what team - exit opps are pretty good across the teams, now the market is picking up. The sponsors team, consumer team, TMT team and GIG have all had juniors move to the buyside in the past 12 months.
