Citigroup....what's the deal?

According to the most recent league tables, Citi seems to be at 1 or 2 in Equity, Debt, and M&A, with a considerable gain in M&A strength over the past year.

Where do they stand with exit options, compensation, culture?

Culture: Not really defined, although on the debt side you have the old Salomon Brothers legacy, i.e. highly aggressive, in-your-face attitude etc.. All huge universal banks have pretty much the same culture.

Comp: On par with the tier 1 street, although I know that those on the fixed income side end up with approx 20-25% more than street.

Exit ops: high yield/lev fin groups can exit to good PE shops (since dealflow is huge) - although of the 15 or so analysts at KKR and Blackstone (London office - as an example) only around 3 are from Citi..
