Client exposure as a junior analyst

Are there any divisions/ groups in banking that allow junior analysts to gain real client exposure (calls with clients, lunches or dinners with clients, meetings with clients, possibly pitching but I know that’s really pushing it). Or is this a fantasy and really only for MDs?

You will sit in on some client calls, work closely with their associates and possibly up to CFO for models and materials, get to attend closing dinner, but no bank is going to have 23 year olds pitching billion-dollar deals - and why should they, that's not exactly respectful to a C suite guy at the top of their field.

PE will let you have more exposure, especially if you're at a group that expects juniors to source

In my group, I was interacting with the CFO of the company we were selling (Market cap of around $2 billion) over email by the end of my internship regarding some deliverables. During the marketing processes, I have seen analysts about 9-12 months in leading the presentations as we market deals. So yes, I have personally seen it happen. Some groups are very rigid and don’t allow you to have any interaction but there’s also groups out there that allow you to interact with clients at a meaningful level as you go through ur analyst stint.
