Cohen Capital Markets & Cantor

Hello all,

I'm currently in lateral process for two shops and am wondering if anyone can shed some light on these two firms. Cohen seems to focus on TMT while Cantor's HC group is one of the better groups at the firm. I do like HC more but am open to TMT as well. My primary goal is to build some solid deal reps but I'm not set on PE (likely CorpDev).

For a CorpDev goal the calculus is different from PE  recruiting: what matters is deal reps in a coherent  sector and how well you can talk through them, not the  brand premium that drives "X and it's not even close"  answers. So the honest answer is that it depends on  live deal flow more than name. Cantor HC has a real  franchise in healthcare services, and healthcare  CorpDev teams - payors, providers, services - hire  bankers with sector fluency. Cohen's TMT focus sets  you up the same way for tech CorpDev. The questions  worth asking before deciding: which desk is busier  right now and actually staffs juniors on live deals,  and where the last few analysts from each group landed  - both teams will tell you if you ask during the  process. One caveat that overrides everything else at  the lateral level: group-specific deal flow beats  firm-level reputation every time. A quiet desk at the  "better" firm gives you nothing to say in a CorpDev  interview.
