Cold Emailing HR to ask about openings?

Hey guys, I graduated from college last year and am currently working in a valuation job. I wish to quit this job and work in IB (I have previous internship experience). My plan is to cold email HR at the various BBs and what not to try to set up phone calls and ask about possible opportunities. IMO this should be more useful than cold emailing analysts, since HR in theory should know the headcount at all the various groups etc, right?

I just wanted to get some opinions on what people think about my plan, and perhaps get any tips/advice. I don't have other networking contacts that I can reach. BTW, I will be focusing on Asia offices.

P.S. I would like to maximize my chances of working in the field. Would it be OK if I told them, if there are no opportunities in IBD, that I am also open to other departments (research, AM, markets, etc)?

HR is lazy and will likely just redirect you to the careers website or ignore you altogether.

Your time is probably better off meeting with headhunters, preferably those with a focus on Asia.

Yeah.. That's been the kind of response I've gotten so far. Should I just find some head hunter companies online and email them? Why would they help me?
