College Student Learning how to Model

Hey y'all, I was just wondering if any of you guys had any tips or tricks on learning how to try and model. I was just trying to get a headstart and get a little used to it before the big recruiting seasons. Also, when interning or working somewhere FT, do they usually provide you a model template to work off of, or do you have to free ball and design the whole thing yourself when submitting? Thanks!
