Contact Organization and Management
I am looking to stay long term in banking, but always like having an exit strategy just in case. I was wondering (1) how you manage your contacts at other banks, buyside shops, and non-finance/CF gigs, and (2) what does your network look like (mainly aimed at post-MBA folks).
For (1) I am currently using Excel to store emails, phone number, company, fun facts, how I know them and their LinkedIn, but do you use any other software to organize your contacts?
(2) Currently, my network is mainly folks I've worked with or are from some college orgs (think final clubs is how religious the alumni are about helping each other lol). Outside of peers, I wonder if I'm behind the curve since, although there are 2 MDs and 3 SVP (equivalent positions) I know who would speak highly of me if I was interviewing at their funds or firms, I don't really know how I compare to those associates (or higher) who came from an MBA program (since you basically network all day for 2 years) vs the A2A homies. I don't know if my fellow analyst class that's going to the buyside or CF will be very helpful, at least in the short term (next 2 to 5 years).
