Corp Fin --> ??? Advice for CF analyst --> IBD needed!

Hi all

I'm in a FPA type role right now with a large PE/HF. It's a great role with tons of exposure to senior mgmt / some cool projects, alongside the day-to-day mgmt reporting tasks.

However, I really think that building up a technical background is really essential. The group does some corp strat stuff as well (at these small firms, the finance groups are all pretty much integrated as one) but most of the "cooler" projects are staffed by guys with more technical backgrounds, ie banking/research etc.

I feel FPA roles have you kind of chained at that firm as you don't really build upon transferable academic knowledge ; you mainly just learn more about your own firm, which I'm not sure I want to work specifically at a fin serv company long-term (considering corp strat in other industries).

I'm definitely more interested in the project-based roles than the day-to-day of FPA, and looking for a potential exit to banking after a couple years. Any advice how to make the jump? Do you guys analysts with 1-2 yrs FPA experience at your firm? Do any BB's take experienced hires as analysts? What type of banks would be a "sweet spot" if any? Could anyone with considerable CF experience comment on the above conclusions?

Thanks!

Really interested in this as well. Most interested in the idea of a 1-2 year experienced hire into an analyst program for investment banking. My guess is just to network into a boutique but just seeing if anyone has first hand thoughts.
