Emerging market, high-yield bond issuing deal, gathering the investors for the issue. One of the investors said that the yield is not enough, but it is enough if we make the issue ten times bigger... Like wtf?
Another situation, not really with an IB deal, that one was shared with me by one of our investment advisors. A guy wanted to buy 10% of shares of a bank and asked if that is feasible with... 50k USD... We had to upset him and tell that it doesn't even qualify him for 0.01%.
as a summer analyst, i was entrusted with our bank’s only copy of the model. on a USB stick. that i had to ferry from the global coordinator’s office on a citibike.
this was a 10-figure deal at a BB.
Mate you know your laptop auto stores a copy of models when you close out excel right? Right.....?
the situation was that the other bank couldn't send us the model due to tech issues, so i had to go physically retrieve it from their office. as you can imagine this was a compliance nightmare, but it was the only way.
$5mm in fees resting on a 2in flash drive in some 20yr-old's pocket. no pressure.
