Current Citi Group Rankings

There has been a lot of talk recently about how weak Citi Tech is in the West coast. I was wondering how is the NYC group and outside of M&A and Comms, what are the top Citi NYC groups. Previous posts are several years old.

Would also like to ask about the group in Houston. I've read in a few places that it's one of the best, is that still the case?

Thoughts on Citigroup IB in general? I have an offer from Citi London and not sure if I should do it. Though, I really enjoyed the interview process and liked the people.

In my opinion they constantly rank 4th behind MS, GS, JP in Europe and globally but somewhat have the feeling that in this forum citi isn’t regarded that well.

How are the exits? MF exits possible?

Best groups in terms of reputation and placement are Industrials, M&A and FSG / GAM.

Couldn’t disagree more about FSG being a support group. They run point on all the LBO models as well as hold the pen on the internal credit memos. LF provides pricing on the debt and structure and the industry group provides the overview pages and company background. You can argue who speaks more in credit committee meetings but in terms of an analysts experience it involves a lot more than “macroeconomics” and more of thinking like a sponsor when it comes to diligence and evaluating an investment thesis.

The experience you get also helps analysts place strongly and it definitely doesn’t hurt that seniors can pick up the phone and call MDs / Partners at the shops you may want to go to. Lifestyle in terms of hours ain’t have bad too.

Healthcare is historically an average group but they have been involved in some recent mega deals (ie Celgene) which has boosted their rep.

P&U is solid but niche.

Comms is good but a ton of hours. Also been involved in some mega deals but frequently just does pitching.

C&R is weak.

they have an m&a group who does the modeling for most deals regardless of industry. however some groups, including P&U and M&T, do a ton of the technical side of things on m&a deals.
