DCM at BB to M&A at MM?

Would that be a smart lateral move to make? Do you guys think that would be worth it to move to a smaller bank so I can have the opportunity to do M&A/coverage?

Also, would that be a fairly easy lateral to make since I will be moving down a tier? I would think that a MM bank would love a lateral hire from a BB, regardless of group. Let me know if I am correct about that.

I have no direct experience with this so take it with a grain of salt...

Generally speaking, name brand isn't nearly as important as experience.

The fact that you work at a BB doing DCM doesn't mean that an M&A group at a MM shop will want you. Given the current climate, there are tons and tons of qualified applicants gunning for the same job. By qualified I mean with actual modeling/IB experience.

Doesn't mean that it can't happen. But the fact that you come from a BB has no added value when the actual work you do doesn't really translate to the hard skills they're looking for.
