Dealing With ADHD In IB/ High Finance Jobs
Title pretty much says it all. So I was just recently diagnosed with adult ADHD.
I read an article where it said that S&T is the best job for ADHD and full of people with ADHD. Also, many people recommend S&T over IB for people with ADHD.
My brain's ability to concentrate has now degraded even further. It's a problem to learn in university with this condition. I am unsuited to long periods of concentration required to make PPTs, memos, models.
I have to say it's hard sometimes, especially when it comes to just sitting down at my desk and reading and learning. I have serious trouble to get to the point where I could concentrate for 6+ hours. I also have issues not doing something else when I watch movies or lectures. I couldn't force myself to pay attention and watch without also being on my phone or doing something else, even to the most interesting/great lectures, then lost track of what was going on and lost interest. Does anyone else have this problem? For those of you that have ADHD and work in IB do you feel that it puts you at a disadvantage? a possible advantage in some cases? How does it affect your daily work life? What is the best job for someone with ADHD? IB or S&T?
Diagnosed with ADHD 3 years ago in undergrad. Definitely have struggles but medication helps very much. It’s definitely something you need to learn to deal with early on in any career. I know a good amount of people with ADHD in banking, including a few senior bankers.
Don’t base your job decision solely on what you read online. For some people with ADHD., S&T may be better, for others, IB may be better.

So I have the same problem. I dealt with ADHD (primarily attention deficit) quite a bit in my first degree, psychology (ironic LOL). however, I mustered through it and once I finished, it was either pursue my masters or attempt the LSAT. However, in typically ADHD fashion I decided to pursue a second bachelors in finance.
I got hammered and GPA dropped drastically given the difficulty of the material in comparison to psych. I decided to go to a therapist (I thought I was medically retarded) turned out I learned nothing psych cause it was ADHD. I was prescribed a couple of medications, and even though it was great it wasn’t enough. I searched far and wide on the internet for extra things to help with my ADHD. I found this book, (https://bookoutlet.ca/products/9781507219430B/selfcare-for-people-with-…), and it has helped out quite a bit. A lot of great tips.
Additionally, another thing that would help, is understand your ADHD, and don’t fight it. Make it your secret weapon.

Have ADHD and feel like it helps me succeed the most when things get busy, since my hyper focus really lets me grind.
Took meds for a bit to help me get through the more mundane parts of the job but stopped taking them, since it just made me feel emotionally dulled (was prescribed Wellbutrin)
