***Debating on taking opp. overseas...in HK

I'm a first year analyst. Recently, I heard of an opportunity opening up in HK. I'm thinking about pursuing it b/c the growth in the emerging market. So, it would a valuable experience, personally and professionally. Since i went abroad in shanghai last year, i really enjoyed traveling. It's a goal of mine to work overseas in some point in my career.

However, I've talked to several mentors and they suggested that the negative would be missing what's happening in the states. I wanted to see what people's opinions are. Do you think it is something to pursue so early in my career? Should i wait? What are the pros and cons?

if you interested in working abroad (which you sound like you are), then I would do it in a heartbeat. The growth (and future) is in Asia. Most people in the States will tell you to stay in the States b/c it's the deepest/biggest market, etc, but things are changing. I'd suggest talking to mentors who have actually worked abroad (as well as in the US) for the most valuable input on your situation..

Also, better to try it while you're young(er) and see whether you like it. Working abroad is an awesome experience (but it can also be quite stressful dealing with different cultures, nuances, etc 24/7).
