Delayed IB timeline for target humanities student

Hi all,
I'm a current freshman studying humanities at one of Harvard/Stanford hoping to secure a sophomore summer internship at a BB IB firm (with the ultimate goal of working at MF PE right after I graduate). As things stand, it looks like I'm going to be on a delayed timeline compared to my peers—I didn't join any of the main finance and investing clubs here this fall, and the ship for spring analyst applications in those clubs seems to have sailed already, meaning I'll have to wait until sophomore year to join. With this in mind, I have two questions:
(1) Will I have started too late (if I join finance/investment clubs sophomore fall) to have a realistic chance at successfully recruiting for a competitive sophomore year internship?
(2) Would it be necessary for me to find some sort of finance-related internship this coming summer? I had hoped to work on a project related to my major, but I understand if I need to get the ball rolling on finance right away.
Thanks!
