Did you let him know he shared the same name as your friend in the damage control? If you did you should be good, dont bring it up once you join unless the director does, then just play it off. You could've said stuff so much worse, don't sweat it.
As long as you made your apology clear (I was trying to contact my friend, you have the same or similar name, sincere apologies, etc.) you should be fine my dude. I don't think someone would rescind an offer for something like this.
