Did not get a return offer due to headcount, but happy to move on.

I heard back today that I did not get a return offer from MM IB due to headcount reasons and cried a lot. My work was very diligent and well done as mentioned by my managers and analysts with room for improvement for soft skills. There were weekends I cried caring a lot about my future and what not given my personal background and what people would say/gossip about when I move back to college etc.

At the end of the day, I realized that I am in my early 20s years old. I will keep my head up, keep applying, and work on things to improve because not every human is perfect at the end. I am grateful to have very supportive parents and a sister beside me who heard the news and were there to talk with me in my room.

I am grateful to have this experience on my resume which I am aware puts me way above average and I can definitely use this for re-recruitment.

This guy gets it. Unlike half the interns bemoaning not making it and blaming it on headcount, AI, or the state of the economy. Keep the attitude level and you will find yourself on a team that values you.

I commend the forward-looking persistence you have, but can we leave crying in the past? No need to get so emotional over a job offer. Also, what does it mean that you “cried a lot on weekends due to your background”. You should not consider FT recruitment if the job regularly makes you cry on the weekends. I get you worked hard and it was an unfair outcome, but that’s life. No need to give a corporate job that type of power over your emotions.
